I've already finished read Panjamon I Was a Headhunter writes by Jean-Ynes Dolamain. This book is about the amazing experiences of young French scientist among the headhunter of Borneo.
The interesting begun when he has captured by two Ibanese headunters. They take him to longhouse, and there having unknowingly asked for her hand in marriage, he is forced to wed the chieftain's daughter, Lintau.
Thereafter, with his new wife, he lives as on of the tribes, learning their costums and tatoos, and the secret of the forest. He undergoes awesome initiation rites to quality as a true Ibanese warrior.
At the some part of this book, I found that Doundi (Writer: Dolamain.JY) is a coward person. He just escape from the longhouse and leaving his wife Lintau without notice to save himself when witch doctor eventually sets out to kill him. But, it's not the only the reason he run away. Doundi also felt homesickness to his country (France) at the same time.
Just feel free to read by yourself, find the ending after he run away from the longhouse/village.
In this book, I've found some term in Iban languages that I never know before. I'm not sure whether it word
1)Panjamon
...they don't speak Iban like us, they're bad Ibans. Panjamon.
"Panjamon" is a word that often comes into conversation. There obviously exist strong animosities not only between races or tribes, but even between clans.
*I'm not sure whether it word Panjamon is word from Iban, English or France language =.='' *
2)Salama
among the sea dayaks to the worth salama is greeting Salama Pagui mean Good Morning.
3)Trimakassit
...the man thanked me with a heartly "trimakassit"
Same meaning with Thank You in English. All this time, I thought my mother tongue doesn't have this word and just adopted from Malay language Terima Kasih. It seems Malay and Iban almost the same by using this word, just different in pronunciation a bit.
